Oh Geezz, This subject has been ongoing misery for me. I have been and all around artist all my life, assemblage, collage, silkscreen, jewelry making etc. I wasn"t able ( I had never tried ) to paint or draw. Making things with my hands was a theaputic, mindless task. I would have gone crazy without it. I was inspired by anything, an object in a magazine, kids playing soccer, my unkind mother. ( that part is the theraputic part). let me get on with it.
I have a large house with two seperate upstairs areas. It has two large rooms. The front room is used for my son's band practice, and it is soundproofed. The second room was a catch all for years. after months of sorting and discarding and deciding what to keep. As an assemblage artist, everything has value! HELP! This was to be mu painting studio. A plav=ce where I could find out who I was as a paiter. I had been in so many classes and had never experienced freedom while painting. Then came the next set of issues " is it important what color my studio id painted"? I know how one color next to another , can change the first color, so this must be a big issue in my entire studio. In the end , I gave up and bought what I liked. Only to then find out that due to the economy, I really needed to downsize. I couldn"t afford enough storage, through it looks like I have stock in plastic bins. Where do I put the bins? Can I paint with tings neatly piled around the room?, I don't think I can. So, should I seek out studio space somewhere. the answer is yes. I don't want to get this room perfect and have the house sell. But, I cannot find any studio rentals. I live near Los Angeles, so I knw they're here. What do I search ubder? I need affordable space to paint and also space for the band. Can you see why I keep watching TV? Everynight, I go to bed with self loathing because I didn't paint that day. does anyone have any suggestions? thanx!

Light. Natural Light or artificial Slightly warmer Daylight balanced Lights that are control able, I found around 5000k works really well. Lots of storage and accessibility to your home(ya don't want the family to think you left em. :) cause once you get the new space you won't want to leave.) Can't wait to see your new space.

David Laffel has very little light and controls what he does have. He paints his studio a dark army green.
I work in an all white studio because it also doubles as a jewelry/enameling studio. It is large and I have
plenty of room to move about.
